DEPOSITS & DISPUTES

Your deposit isn’t a leaving present.

Understand deductions, organise your evidence and use your deposit scheme’s free dispute service.

In England and Wales, a protected tenancy deposit can normally be disputed through your government-approved deposit scheme’s free alternative dispute resolution service. The scheme’s rules and deadlines apply; our optional preparation service is independent of all schemes.

Start by asking for an itemised list of proposed deductions and the supporting evidence. Compare the check-in inventory and photographs with the check-out record, allowing for fair wear and tear.

Make a chronology of the tenancy and correspondence. For each deduction, state the amount challenged, your factual response and the document or photograph that supports it. Keep original files and label copies consistently.

TDS, DPS and mydeposits have their own submission processes. Our evidence bundle is an organiser, not an official scheme form or a submission on your behalf. Confirm the current deadline directly with your scheme before paying for any optional help.
